Summer hols...

Memories of summer holidays as a child for me involve trampolines on  hot, sandy beaches and evening walks along pretty cliff paths watching the sun go down...sigh...lovely times! This year sees us visiting lots of pretty gardens and taking time for ourselves, re-generating and re-connecting, relaxing and creating too...

A different, darker version of my 'Dreamer' girlie

It's time to take a summer break here, so I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks or so...I have lots of new art to share but have yet to scan them...so will wait to share them until I return :)

Re-Connect {new painting}

I went for a walk, through woods and valley...it was lush and green with a heavenly scent...that of growth, of freedom and of new beginnings...I stood for a while and took deep breaths, feeling my own roots sinking down into the earth to re-connect...

Then I came home and I felt like painting...and the painting above is what happened...nature came home with me ♥

A moody day where we live

Our weather is mixed...it's really not like having a summer at all, sort of a spring/summer hybrid, with the spring blooms still flowering amidst the first roses and lupins...

Helebores and spring flowers

I hope you are finding time to get outside and find inspiration in nature...and also finding time to be creative too...it's important, it's good for the soul ♥

Colour me happy...

Perhaps it's an obvious thing to say but I love colour...the wider the spectrum of materials, be it pencils, paints or pastels, the better...seeing all the colour combination possibilities right before my eyes...I've gotta have 'em! So...the latest in paints are these amazing Liquitex heavy body acrylics...firstly, I love the colour range and I'm finding some excellent colour pairings even before mixing my own colours, which can be so useful! Also, they are thick, as the name suggests, and they work great with stenciling to give a bit of a 3D effect, which I'm loving...

some gorgeous colour combo's...

Also, my ongoing quest to find the perfect 'mixed media sketchbook' is continuing...I have to order the Strathmore Mixed Media pads from the USA (I can get them here in the UK, but they are very expensive, it's way cheaper from the States...crazy, I know!) I want an A5 ring bound heavy duty paper filled book to sketch, paint and use all my markers on too, that doesn't start wimping out on me after the second application of said materials...I'm trying a Rowny one but it's not doing very well, with bobbling after I apply the big brush pens, and I've just got a Fat Pad, I'll let you know how that holds up...so far my Strathmore Visual Journal is coming out tops even though it's under 200gsm...amazing!

The studio with several WIP's...these are all completed now!

I hope you have a great week and find time to be creative...I got some Liquitex acrylic ink at the weekend too...whenever I buy a new product, I always get one in pink as a tester :) so a beautiful magenta ink came home with me, I'm looking forward to testing it out...
